This is an old planet re-used, so don't remember exactly.
But I guess the procedure was something like this:
~50 high-res satellite photos from NASA and other places (possibly even Google Earth) including some textures of rock and moss and other things, shrunk and stitched together, using varius tools in Photoshop (clone stamp, healing brush and the regular brush etc), into a 5000x5000px texture.
The finished 5000x5000px texture probably underwent some colouring work already at the texture stage, to make everything fit and look good.
Eventually the image was flattened and then spherized.
When imported into this piece it was shrunk down and the hue was changed to fit this piece. Shadowed with a soft brush, highlighted with a soft brush in colour dodge mode.
