Apocalypse by tadp0l3 Apocalypse by tadp0l3
This piece started out as mere practising with ~Pr3t3nd3rs piece Terra Insomnia as a reference. Never really planned to submit it due to the likeness of said ref, but it grew on me so I decided to upload it.

Some fractals by =synax444 were used, though most of the fractals are my own.

Critique and comments are always welcomed.

This is amazing, but the fact that fractals were involved makes this one hundred times better! Fractals rule! :D

Definetily is very eye-catching with the vivid colour choice 8-) the glowing cracks on the planet are well done too. The rings below the sun could have a bit of shine on them reflecting off the sun itself, that may look cool and add extra depth, but not a bad scene overall :)

I really love that you used such a strong red, it really gets the atmosphere across and it isn't a color you see often in space works. The cracks on the surface look great as well :)

Thanks! And yeah, reddish tones is quite under represented in space art.

Looks good man! I love the see-through crystaly look of the planet. Perhaps the stars are a tad bit dull... maybe if they were brightened and with some more color, would perhaps help, but nothing major, keep it up mate ;) Really like it.

Thanks Synax. You've got to explain what you mean by the "see-through crystaly look of the planet" though ;-)

And yeah, I've always had a problem making the star field look interesting enough - you should do a tutorial on that one, your star scape's are always so colorful and dynamic.

Oh, I mean it looks almost transluscent, like a crystal ball, I think it may have been done on accident, but the effect looks really great ;)

Yeh, I would like to do a star tutorial, its just my time schedule :( Well you know Im always a note away if you ever need advice mate..

Actually there's a texture on the planet that looks like a crystal ball. I made it to look like super nova blast, but somehow ended up using it as an underlaying texture on the planet. Haven't really thought it'd still give a translucent effect though. Glad you like it :)

I love the planet and the rings. I think that it is much saturated for a wallpaper but then again it is just me. The cracks on the planet look very nice but the one that is in the shadowed part of the planet looks a bit oversaturated. And those stars should look a bit redish because of the sun glow. You could fix them because now they don't fit very well. All in all it is a good picture. Reminds a little of the composition of "Terra Insomnia" from ~Pr3t3nd3r But it is different enough :) Just a tip: try to work a bit more on the rings to get more details and more zones with different opacity :)
Well deserved :+fav:

Yeah, as stated in the atrists comment this piece basically started out as a copy of Terra Insomnia, but grew away somewhat from that.

The stars scape should be improved, it's been bugging me all since I upload it. Not only the colour, but also the glow of sertain stars need a tune up.

I'll see what I can do, thanks for the indept comment once again aRchAng3lZz.

I would recommend the star tutorial from =ladyrapid. It is really nice and after some practice you can get really cool effects with it.

Most of the time I don't think that I got enough skills or whatever to give critiques but I guess I could write more from now on :P

Skill do help, and I do think you've got enough of that. But to give critique on art you really don't need to excel in the area you're critiquing. A fresh pair of eyes and some knowledge and interests in the genre is usually enough to see things the artist might have missed and to give advice.

I think you should keep the critiquing up. At least on my pieces, since nothing makes me happier ;-)

And I've read and used ladyrapids tut before - I'm kinda using different techniques for every new piece, I find star scape's to be a tricky thing to master.

Can't agree more. I still have troubles in every single picture with the starfield :D

I can promise you to keep the critique coming on your pieces. But when I look at your progress... Soon you will be better than me (if you aren't now :P)

Sweet, I'll hold you to that promise man :D

But also return the favor of course :P

And I think I've still got quite a road to travel before reaching your skill - besides I'm way too lazy ;-)
