Golden Haze by tadp0l3 Golden Haze by tadp0l3
It's been a while since I last submitted anything to my gallery, so thought it was about time.

The concept is an old one, old and almost over used. There's a whole range of pieces looking almost identical to this one - so can't really take any credit for originality on this one.

For more great pieces on close up suns (pieces that, more or less - or not at all, has influenced the progress of this piece) check out the galleries of *sirgerg, ~pipper-SVK, ~N3UR0N, ~R3V4N and =keepwalking07

Another inspiration and what got me started on this piece is the movie Sunshine.

Ah, anyways - enjoy! :)

Wow...WOW...o.o This one really makes me feel the glow of that star (or is it a planet? ^^;). You truly captured the presence of that light, even to the point of making my eyes feel strained from the light there. XDD

Beautiful masterpiece. :]

I clicked on this because it looked like something out of Sunshine (the most criminally underrated SF in existence) and lo! That was the inspiration!

Great work.

As it should do - in reality it'd be nothing more than a black circle - I wanted to enhance it a bit for a more attractive approach, yet wouldn't want to loose all reality neither...

Glad you like it though :)

Awesome! The sun looks great! Its so bright and the lighting is natural. I hope I can make a sun just as good as this one someday :( Got any tips ?--> [link] :P

First tip: Remove watermark - it's ugly as f*ck! Afraid of people stealing your work? Just don't upload high res. At your upload resolution the most anyone would get out of that would be a small icon on their coffee cup. I tend to ignore any and all pieces I see with a watermark on it - I'll make an exception here though ;)

If you compare my sun to yours the biggest different is the glow. As you can see I haven't limited the glow on my sun to PS inbuilt layer-glow settings. Make your own glow, use several layers for it. Paint it! Use a big soft brush on low opacity and paint it yourself. If you want to do it the easy way blur it using different blur filters and blur methods. Try various blending modes and variate the colors.

The texture on your sun looks fairly nice, just keep on practicing - use different textures, different cloud stock, and try to experiment as much as possible to get as far away from =keepwalking07s tutorial (not that it isn't good, because it is! But because you want a unique and a style of your own).

Other than that, just keep practicing :)

Thank you!

It was created using an assortment of techniques and softwares. The base heavily relies on textures and on fractals created in the software Apophysis - with much use of Photoshops default brushes :)

OK, this is really great.. except for the planet/moon - it's extremely plain compared to the sun..
Other than that it looks great, the border, background, and sun are all awesome. :D

Glad you like it!

Though I intended this piece to be atleast somewhat realistic, there's several areas which realistically would look even more boring than they do now. For instance, with the imensity of light beaming from the sun the planets would have no visible textures at all, they'd merely be compleetly black silhouetes - possibly with a very sharp very thin and almost white outline. The light would sertainly block out the light of the stars in the surrounding space too.

I allowed myself some artistic freedom however - by actually displaying some background stars, and some faint texture on the planets. Though I didn't want to go as far as to display the planets with highly detailed and crisp surfaces, as that would be too far away from what you'd actually see.

That said, thanks for your comment, and I'm glad you like it! :)

Hey man, artistic license always trumps realism in space scenes, otherwise they're pretty boring. Like how the pillars of creation are colored according to what atom is in that spot.

Anyways, I actually think it'd be interesting to see an almost washed out outline of a planet.. whatever. Thanks for the detailed reply, and you're welcome! :D

I do have to admit I thought I had seen this exact peice before :greetings: but oh well, it's really the only way you can get a good view of the sun in a space scene :sun:

Aye, the originality of it is less than zero. It's been done time and time again. Still, was a fun piece to make - and to be honest I create for the joy of creation, not to please the audience :)

That being said, I don't mind the audience speaking their mind of my creations - so though it's a concept well known, how you reckon the execution in this particular piece to be?

That's the spirit :D While I like originality I don't think it should get in the way of enjoying creating the peice
Execution-wise I'd say the light-cresent on the planet is too large and soft-edged. In reality it would be incredibly sharp and thing right around the very edge...probably not even that, it would be a total silhouete instead (but I understand adding some lighting for artistic purposes, I'd do the same myself :p) The sun itself though looks great

This is gorgeous.

I don't know if you're a gamer at all but Halo: Reach had some damn epic space scenes in the game. i would absolutely love to see one of you legends create something from the Halo universe.

Anyway, nice work as always.
