Starlit night by tadp0l3 Starlit night by tadp0l3
Started out as planet practice - thought I'd put a background on it and submit it as a wallie. Hope somebody likes it :)

1920x1200 download

The original file is almost twice as big, so if you want other resolutions give me a shout.

The original planet was 8000x8000 in size for added quality.

Edit: Changed the lightning on the ring somewhat, added lakes on the planet and removed some obvious fractal patterns.

Sorry ppl, but the ugly white light will remain :P

This photo is stunning, it's breath-taking even. I love the fact that you used plenty of stars, more than enough to wish upon. The unfamiliar planet, to me, resembles an out-of-universe feeling; a place where imagination lingers and reality is unheard of. The twinkling stars give the cold, space feeling a turn for the best. If dreams could be painted then this would be damned near the result.

I adore this picture, it must have taken a lot of time and effort, something you don't see too much of nowadays. Thank you so much for sharing this with our world.

I honestly don't have any criticism for this picture, the light is fairly balanced and the stars don't seem to have a pattern.

very nice. i like the planet a lot. I do think it needs some more diversity in the background. Such as colors within the same scheme (purple, pink, blues) and add some red giants or other colored stars. !

As this was mere practice, most effort was put into the planet. I do agree the bg could use some more work though :)

This is so totally awesome dude.

The only thing I have a problem with are the larger stars, they just look slightly out of place.

The rings are breathtaking. The planet is incredibly detailed and real-looking, as are the clouds. But where did all that water come from? I don't see any water on the planet.

Well, there's a big lake and some rivers on the shadowy side of the planet, if you look closely (not all too easy to spot). Added some lakes on the sunny side too though :)

Side from that, water mustn't come from rivers, perhaps what's looks like green forests are actually very humid swamps ;)

Oh, did I say water? Sorry, I meant clouds, but you seem to have understood that. Now that you mention it, I do see the lake and rivers on the shadowy side. An interesting world it must be, with all those swamps.

It's fantastic. I would actually be really interested in how you did the rings. Drop me a note if you feel so inclined.

Thanks

Gotta be careful with fractal-base dnebulae, I can sort see triangular fractally patterns in the background :sherlock: the planet does have ana amazing level of detail but perhaps too "the same" all over, but it now looks like it's totally covered in forests - something we can't complain about =p the rings might look better if more green than blue (to match the planet) and perhaps more desaturated too but I like their fine grittyness 8-)

Yeah, you're right, there's some obvious patterns in the nebula - I'll see if I can do anything about it. Like I said in the description this piece is really only planet practice, the background I did in haste just to have something to view the planet against - guess It's quite obvious :/

You're right though, I should try to variate the texture a bit more - throw in some mountains or deserts. Hmmm, off to work again ;)

Thanks as always for your input Matthew :)
